Day of Prayer Is Almost Here

Dear praying friend:

The National Day of Prayer was founded 62 years ago to remind us that our true solid foundation is from God and His Word. Thursday, May 2 has been set aside as a day for Americans to once again ask for God’s involvement in our country: its leaders, schools, families, businesses, church, media, and military.

Presidential Prayer Quote by Abraham Lincoln
"It is fit and becoming in all people, at all times, to acknowledge and revere the Supreme Government of God; to bow in humble submission to its chastisement; to confess and deplore their sins and transgressions in the full conviction that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and to pray, . . . . . . with all fervency and contrition, for the pardon of past offenses, and a blessing upon their present and prospective action.

"And whereas, when our own beloved country, once, by the blessings of God, united, prosperous and happy, is now afflicted with faction and civil war, it is peculiarly fit for us to recognize the hand of God in this terrible visitation, and in sorrowful remembrance of our own faults and crimes as a nation and as individuals, to humble ourselves before Him and pray for His mercy…that the inestimable boon of civil and religious liberty, earned under His guidance and blessing, by the labor and sufferings of our fathers, be restored."

You're invited to join Christian friends at our local, one-hour prayer event.

Unite with millions nationwide and become a prayer warrior this year on our National Day of Prayer — Thursday, May 2, from noon to 1 o'clock, in the Chapel in the Pines worship center.

Each person will sit in a prayer circle made up of seven believers. You'll be given a helpful prayer guide that highlights seven vital "center of power" prayer topics. With each topic, you'll simply spend a few minutes reading relevant Scripture, then praying aloud individually in your circle for each topic; prayer circles will pray approximately five minutes per topic.

Today, please pray about your participation in this national event, asking the Father if He'd like you to pray for our country on this significant occasion; carefully listen to His answer.

No need to RSVP. Arrive by 11:50 a.m.; bring a praying friend. Contact our event coordinator, George Farley, at 795-2917, with questions.
