Nelson Mandela: "Beacon of Freedom"

July 18, 1918 . . . December 5, 2013

Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years as a prisoner in South Africa for opposing apartheid, then emerged to become his country's first black president. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and an enduring symbol of integrity, principle, and resilience, Nelson died this evening at 95.

He was a shining example of a peaceful resistor who triumphed over oppression. His life inspired me to design this fitting tribute to Madiba.

A true world changer, courageous beacon of freedom, now free at last.
