Highlighting Photos — Three Ways

1. Color Highlights (first of Three pages)

Give your photos a few intensified colors  Let's say you've got a photo with the correct exposure and a pleasing color balance. Should you kick back and publish your image? Not necessarily. Is your image looking its very best? Likely, a photo editor can enhance your otherwise attractive photo by intensifying some of its elements, producing a colorful, luminous image.

Below you'll see already attractive photos that have been enhanced by applying more color saturation (a.k.a. color purity) to key elements.

Newly added!  See several examples of Warren's highlighting techniques on his glow highlights page and modified backgrounds page.

Here come five before and after color-highlight transitions that combine out-of-focus correction and low-contrast correction.

First Color-Highlight Edit  Move your cursor on then off this image to see how a slightly intensified color saturation of flower petals and brightening of the baby's colors have enhanced the original image.

Blues, yellows, and pinks were increased slightly while brightening the baby and its cushion.

Second Color-Highlight Edit  Move your cursor on then off this image to see how a more intense color saturation of the leaves and butterfly's wings and body, along with background darkening, has enhanced the original image.

Before and after images highlighting a red, orange, and gold African butterfly

The red, orange, and gold colors of the butterfly, as well as the green leaves, were increased.

Third Color-Highlight Edit  Move your cursor on then off this image to see how a much more intense color saturation of background colors and increased hair and facial saturation have enhanced the original image.
