Photo Collages

What is a photo collage?  Collage is an art form in which graphic designers and photo editors tastefully combine a number of images into one display.

Is a collage different from a photo layout board?  Yes. Usually, a collage displays a collection of photos with little or no text, captions, or descriptions. An exception is a photo collage that uses headline text. When descriptions, captions, play-by-play accounts, and so on are added to photo collections, those creations are usually called photo layout boards or storyboards, as opposed to collages. Warren Camp has created numerous photo collages for clients, churches, families, and friends, as shown below. Simplest of collages: Warren gave four wedding photos a colored border before placing the collection on a stock background image.

Three baby images were given a custom frame before Warren added a boy's profile, along with an adornment image and applicable Scripture, to create this simple-yet-striking collage.

This simple collage was made with four family photos that Warren converted to Andy-Warhol-colored Polaroid prints before placing them on a stock background image.

After giving the background image a muted comic book look, Warren enhanced the collage by placing a number of soft-edge close-ups in key positions.

Warren placed a different close-up inside each of six multicolored heart frames that he sketched on a blue gradient background.

Warren divided the original image into six tiles, giving each a separate layer that he placed on a pastel-colored background. He rotated each tile before framing it with a rounded, semitransparent, colored frame.

After giving four black-and-white photos of a ballerina a thin white frame, Warren blended them and two faded-edge close-ups into a multi-image collage on a black background.

Five photos got custom frames before Warren placed them in ideal locations on a painted background. Next, he rotated and tilted them to add perspective, adding a close-up image he created of the boy's blue eyes, which he placed above applicable Scripture.

Six color-framed images were laid out on an abstract background. Warren then tilted, rotated, and curled a few of the photos to add depth to his Pigtailed Lisa collage.

Starting with a rose image, Warren combined a dozen different shadowed-flower images, placing all on a black background. He then gave the finished floral collage a multicolored, acid-burned frame.

Choosing a nine-tile format, Warren assembled friendly images, surrounding them with a thick colored frame. Beneath the collage, he added a relevant Scripture and reference.
