Custom Borders, Custom Frames — Start with Simple Treatments

Sure. You could add a simple straight, one- or two-line border to the edge of a photo such as these:

Or perhaps you prefer a basic frame for your photo, such as these:

But when you want to create attractive, attention-getting graphic images using borders or frames, your photo editor or graphic designer can apply custom borders and frames in colors of your choice. What a difference a custom border or frame can make to an already superb photo!

Borders — Shown in black, custom borders can be any color you like.

Line Frames — This sampling of black custom frames can also be made in colors.


Here is an assortment of Warren's custom frames and borders. Click to enlarge them and read their captions; click again to reduce them.


After receiving a saddle-brown line border, the image was placed on a white background. A handmade shadow was then applied to the entire border to suggest a slight dimensional curl to two image corners.

Warren gave the image a pair of line borders in olive drab and white. He placed it on a gradient gray-brown background before adding dimensional shadows, then softening all four edges.

Seascape

Starting with a stock image of crossed fingers, Warren applied a colored border before placing numerous white boxes with varying opacities. He finished the composition by adding a relevant Scripture with a soft drop-shadow effect.

Fingers crossed

Warren supplemented the original image's plain, wheat-brown top and bottom borders with a soft torn-paper frame, bordered by a gradient sienna background.

Honesty

A thin white border was applied before adding four shadowed edges to the image.

Dew drops

After giving the image one white and two olive-green borders, Warren placed it on a brushed gray-brown background he created. He put the final composition on a white background for contrast.

Gravestone

Warren first gave the original family tree image a ragged two-color border with a golden-glow edge. Over the entire photo, he then applied a colored leaves image, removing those portions of the leaves image that covered the six missionaries and the tree, distinguishing them from the photo's woodsy background and the leafy overlay.

After adding a firebrick-red border to this stewardship message, Warren applied a few hand-drawn acid-stain layers in a variety of opacities.

Patience

First Warren framed this image with a pair of white borders. Next he applied a custom hand-rubbed frame that suggests softness, before working in a gentle shadow behind the image for added dimension.

After correcting focus, exposure, and saturation levels of the lioness image, Warren created an elliptical picture frame with a shadowed edge.

Warren first gave the honey bee image a custom frame. After adding a popular verse from Psalm 119, he softened the four edges gradually, giving the framed image added dimension.

Warren enhanced the original image by giving it a midnight-blue border to which he applied a custom, emulsified-film look.
