Vacation Bible School — Kenya 2009 Mission

Last minute runs to Michael’s proved vital in our four day Vacation Bible School for about 100 kids in Malindi, Kenya.  I designed the program before we left so that each day had a theme, story, and application.  We taught the kids to “See the Difference” in their lives, “Show their Faith” to everyone, “Use their Talents” to help others, and finally “Be Transformed” by Christ’s love.

All the children embraced the college team who poured their love and energy into the kids while singing silly songs and setting up ridiculous relay games.  Everyday we had to pry not the kids from the team, but the team off the kids, because everyone was having such a good time!  The last day we gave a gospel presentation and many of the children were very responsive.  Pray that the event would have planted seeds for the future of the church.

A bit later we did the same program in Kilifi to a group of about 200 kids.  The kids there even taught us a Swahili song “Na Penda Yesu” or “I Love You Jesus” which became our team’s theme song for the remainder of the trip.  It was such a joy being with all the energetic children teaching them, and learning from them.

Abby wrote, as well as led, the VBS curriculum that was taught in both locations.
Here she teaches youngsters at the Jesus Cares Center in Malindi.
Do you think this child enjoyed himself
during vacation Bible school?

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth (3 John 1:4).
