A Reason to Shout "Hallelujah!"

Raising Her Baby to Love Jesus

by Marti Fisher

Last year, I had the privilege of going to Cameroon with Dale. This was his fifth trip and I really wanted to see where he had been and meet some of the people who had become dear to him. I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I got to experience one of the most joyous times that I have had in my 40 years of ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ.

Here's how the story unfolds…at a local orphanage where we were staying, there was a young girl who had a baby. Her father had divorced her mother and the new wife didn't want her around so the father sent her away to herd cattle. She became pregnant and this brought shame to the family. Her own dad tied her to a tree and left her to die. Eventually she got loose and began to wander. For three hours she walked the road not knowing where she was going but the Lord had ordered her steps. Through a series of circumstances, she ended up at the orphanage with her little 6 month old baby. The children there were so happy to have a baby to cart around. They named the baby Blessing.

One day, the young mother said to me, “I want to be with Christians always.” I then asked her if she wanted Jesus to be her Savior and she said “yes.” We sat down in the cornfield and she asked the Lord to come into her heart. The next night I sat beside her as she watched the Jesus Film in her own mother tongue (shown below). It was as if the message in the film was injected straight into her soul. At one point she said, “Jesus—wonderful!” The next day she asked to be baptized and we all went down to the river for this important event in her life. Her face was just radiant.

Then several weeks ago I received a letter from her in response to some clothes I had sent.
“Dear Marti, I am very happy to write you this letter. Anti have given me the dresses with shoes for Blessing and clothes. I thank you so much because even my mother that gave birth to me have never given me such a nice dress. You are my mother and Blessing is own child and your children are brothers and sisters. I love you so much. God bless you."

How I wish I could show you the joy in her face from the pictures she included. It is best not to send these over the internet since she is a convert from another major world religion. Anti told me she had such joy in telling her that she was saved. She goes to church and is bringing up her little baby to love Jesus. Isn't this a reason to shout hallelujah?

the LORD will receive me. —  Psalm 27:10
