It took days for Abby to do a thorough cleaning of her room. Candy rappers were retrieved from under the bed, things that had been lost for some time were found. At last everything sparkled.

It didn't look like a typical high school room anymore. All too often someone asks me, “How do you like the empty nest?” I realize that I'm actually enjoying it. Abby isn't too far away (about 45") and I'm overwhelmed with joy when I hear and see how much she loves Azusa Pacific University.

We had a long talk one evening when Abby said, “Mom, you don't know how refreshing it is to have a professor ask if anyone has something to pray for before class begins. One girl had lost her good friend and we could pray for her.” She went on to tell me how heavenly the men’s choir sounded. Anyone can go to practice on a Friday and Abby told me that one guy began to sing “Hallelujah” on whatever note he wished, then another did the same until all 80 were singing “Hallelujah.” Then they each dropped off, one by one, until there was only one guy left. I got the chills. It sounded like a piece of heaven. I think that I'll go hear them practice and take our daughter out to dinner.

Friends since high school, now college roommates:
Rachel, Destinee, and Abby (left to right).
Abby and her roomies that you see below all knew each other in high school. Their room is roomy and they try to have devotionals together. They're part of a group who's trying different churches to see which one is the best fit. Dale and I are so happy with Abby's choices and feel that finding a good church is a very important part of student life.

I had fun making a unique quilt for Abby, combining all sorts of African fabrics. I also made her a laundry bag and had her pet name stitched on it. Bad idea! She wasn't too excited about it but she still uses the bag. "Can't Mom have a little fun?" I thought. After all, making the quilts and laundry bag is a Fisher tradition and traditions MUST go on!

Abby lives in the freshman dorm on the third floor. She's taking classes in business and global studies. She also has an Exodus-Deuteronomy Bible class. For P. E., she's doing weightlifting. When we talked after she'd been in college for only a few days, she said, “ My friend [thus and such] and my other friend. . .” Abby has made friends so easily.

Abby answers the question, "Do you like college?"Just look at the picture of Abby with her thumbs up. She's so glad to be where she is. I have such joy knowing that she's happy there. If you'd like to join me in feeding her mailbox, please use this address:
