Kudos to Abby!

by Dale Fisher

September has been a very good month for Abigail. A number of times, Abby's life and character were recognized and acclaimed by a number of people and organizations. I thank God for all the gifts He's given her and encouraged her to use. We're pleased to see such recognition in our young woman.

The president of the Redlands Rotary Club (left) introduces Abby (second from right)
and three "students of the month" from other schools.
Abby receives special recognition from a Redlands Rotary Club officer. The Redlands Rotary Club honored Abby as September's Student-of-the-Month for this academic year, representing Redlands East Valley High School (REV). Rotary's student of the month selection is made from September thru May or June, featuring only seniors. Abby's favorite teacher, as well as Marti and I, were treated by the Rotary Club to a wonderful awards luncheon that paid tribute to noteworthy students.

That same week, her school newspaper selected Abby for a half-page article highlighting one of its outstanding seniors. The article, titled "Abby Fisher: A Young Woman with a Mission," covered a number of things: Abby's background having grown up in Africa; her spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ; her academic achievements, Abby's athletic participation on REV's varsity badminton team; and her leadership skills coordinating the school's marching band. Here's that article.

Abby Fisher: A Young Woman with a Mission

by Muffy Watson

Imagine a place that is located far across the globe where in that area one can experience the richness of its culture and wildlife just by taking a walk outside. Senior Abby Fisher doesn't need to imagine such a place because she has experienced the life of wild Africa. Even though she was born in California, Fisher was raised in Kenya for 11 years and identifies with the people and country that shaped the most important period of her life.

“The people of Kenya are very warm and welcoming, and the wildlife is just spectacular," Fisher said. "I've seen practically every wild animal. I've pet a cheetah, rode an ostrich, rode a camel, fed a crocodile, and even kissed a giraffe."

Living in Africa those 11 years is not the only experience she's had. Through Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Redlands, she's been on mission trips to Kenya, Honduras, the Bahamas, and Romania. Fisher is very church oriented, worshipping at Trinity routinely on Sundays and attending two different youth groups, one on Tuesdays, another on Wednesdays. To add to her spirituality, Fisher's major role model is Jesus Christ. "All my decisions are based on Him by following His plan and purpose," Fisher said. What's to expect from an outstanding teenager whose parents are missionaries?

FAITHFUL SENIOR: Fisher finds peace in her hectic life by turning to
her role model, Jesus. With his guidance, she is able to
overcome many obstacles in life.

With a whopping 4.3 grade point average and a hefty senior class schedule that includes six AP classes (advanced placement classes earn college credit), Fisher still manages to be a very active student on campus. Throughout her high school career, Fisher has been actively involved in Compact Club as its social chair, the co-president of All Truth Found, head quartermaster of the marching Wildcats, and a varsity player on the badminton since sophomore year. What else can this super student not do?

To add to her activities list, Fisher participates in Girl Scouts and has been a member for 10 years. She says she is sick of selling cookies. Who wouldn't be after 10 years? Her next accomplishment in Girl Scouts is to achieve the Gold award, which is equivalent to the Eagle Scout award in Boy Scouts.

Fisher doesn't only focus on academics and character building programs, but she is extremely well. She's been playing the flute for nine years, enjoys sewing, making jewelry, and basically enjoys anything that's a hands-on activity.

Also an avid rock climber, Fisher even has a rock-climbing wall in her room. Some people could call Fisher a super-overachiever, but in reality she's just a hard worker, both spiritually and physically.

After high school, Fisher plans to attend Azusa Pacific University and major in international relations. Thereafter, she plans to spread the Word of Christ, as a missionary, for the rest of her years. Trudge on and spread the word Abby, and God bless you.

. . . being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you
will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
