From Changing Spark Plugs
to Changing Lives for Christ

by Dale Fisher

Elizabeth is a remarkable lady in the country of Kenya; yet she's also a typical example of how Jesus transforms the lives of those He touches. Elizabeth is married, has two children, and lives on the eastern slope of Mt. Kenya. For a living, she sells auto parts and has a small store in town that's about the size of a closet. Not a mechanic, but one who can fix a clutch, Elizabeth was trained in Prayer, Care, Share in April, by her pastor, Overseer Richard, who is one of our first-generation TLM leaders. As part of our May mentoring trip, we talked with our first-generation leader, as well as a few of their disciples, such as Elizabeth.

Sharing with me how she practices Prayer, Care, Share, Elizabeth had planted some onions (the kind grown for its leaves not its bulbs) and her neighbor complained to her that they were planted along her path to the outhouse. Elizabeth did not think that this was the case but without complaint she uprooted the onions, replanting them in another location. She was practicing "care." The neighbor then asked her to "pray" for business items, such as the sale of some land. Elizabeth is now looking for an opportunity to "share" her story and the gospel.

Since being trained in Prayer, Care, Share, Elizabeth treats her customers better; they now say that "they can see Christ in her." She's gone from helping people change their spark plugs to changing their lives spiritually; from the temporal to the eternal. When I asked her how much she has grown in the Lord since she was trained two months ago, I did hand motions and indicated three-quarters of an inch of growth. She grinned and held out her arms to indicate that she had grown the distance between her shoulders. Later when I asked to take a photo of her growth, she held out her arms all the way to show her spiritual growth.

In her small store, Elizabeth presents a few spark plugs she has for sale.

Overseer Richard drops by her shop for a friendly, supportive visit.

When asked by Dale how much her faith had grown after being trained in Prayer, Care, Share, Elizabeth spreads her arms wide in delight.

Jesus has changed Elizabeth's life. Now she's helping to change the lives of others!
