How "Prayer, Care, Share"
Accelerates Church Growth

by Dale Fisher

What a joy it was to again see and be with our friends who are the first generation of leaders with Transformational Leadership Movement (TLM) in Cameroon! Our recent trip there was a "training trip," as we have the custom of alternating between training trips and mentoring trips. We did, however, have some time to listen to how God was using Prayer, Care, Share in an incredible way to accelerate church growth in at least one church.

We talked with each leader over a meal and listened to stories about how their ministry was going. Njung Promise, the pastor of Salem Baptist Church, which is located on the property adjoining the orphanage where we stay, gave us this remarkable report:

His congregation of 99 people was "holding steady" until last August when he began using Prayer, Care, Share, starting his first small group with three people. Today, his congregation is bursting at the seams at the church: 234 people and 18 small groups having between six and eight members. You can see in the bottom photo, below, how the new building under construction, on the right, will increase seating in his church.

Pastor Promise also shared with us how he'd taught his church members ways to practice Prayer, Care, Share, and how this has had an impact on individuals and the community. Victorine, a lady in his congregation, selected David, a blind man, as one of the people in circles of relationships for whom she'd pray and to whom she'd show care. She visited his home and found that it was very dirty and the yard was also not in good order. She brought him a bed sheet and personally swept his house, as shown in this photo.

Victorine also gathered a group of friends who cleaned his yard. Now David attends Salem Baptist Church while neighbors say, "Wow, look at how these Christians care for people." (If you'd like to hear a welcome song sung recently at this Cameroon church's service click here.)

How exciting it is to see and hear how Prayer, Care, Share is helping accelerate church growth here in Cameroon, as well as have a positive impact on the local community!

Don Lovell (Dale's director: second row, center) and Dale gathered TLM Cameroon's first generation of leaders: six district pastors from the Cameroon National Baptist Convention, along with other denominational leaders. All met and worked for three days, which were packed with training and interaction.

Don teaches "Leadership and Vision" among a number of other sessions of TLM's Character and Leadership course.

Dale taught the remaining sessions from the "Leadership and Vision" class, such as "Servant Leadership" and "Moral Purity." Both teachers also delivered the Dynamic Discipleship course.

Meet Njung Promise. He's the pastor of Salem Baptist Church, located on the property adjoining the Harvest Children's Home orphanage in Cameroon where Dale and Don stayed.

Because the congregation of Salem Baptist Church in Cameroon has recently grown, a larger facility was urgently needed. The church's new building under construction (to the right) will enable increased seating in Pastor Promise's church.

Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." — Matthew 22:37–40
